Within the last 20 years, the risk of being injured in an occupational accident has declined by more than 50 percent. Nevertheless, if an occupational accident or disease occurs, the person concerned is protected by a comprehensive care system.
The principles underlying the German insurance scheme, i.e.
- accident prevention (prevention)
- restoration of health and working capacity (rehabilitation)
- provision of financial benefits (e.g. pensions)
lie with one single institution - the German Berufsgenossenschaften.
This system gives workers comprehensive protection and provides them with a high level of social security.
