Principles of procedure
In order to perform their individual administrative tasks, the German Berufsgenossenschaften carry out administrative procedures. In the course of these procedures they check whether the requirements for specific decisions have been met.

If the administrative procedure deals with the allowance of compensation payments, the insured person does not have to apply for it. The notice given on the occurrence of an accident or an occupational disease as well as medical reports usually set of "ex officio" action by the Berufsgenossenschaften. In case the entitlement to the benefits is not self-evident, the BGs examine in the framework of the expert investigations (e.g. hearing of witnesses on the details of the accident, medical expertise) whether the necessary requirements have been fulfilled. The decision is taken by the BGs at the end of the investigations. The insured person is usually given written notification.

The administrative procedure should be designed and carried out in a way to produce correct results in a speedy, smooth and unbureaucratic way. The persons concerned have to be integrated in the procedure and the personal data acquired in this context is subject to the regulation on social data protection.
