In case of occcupational accidents, commuting accidents and occupational diseases, the German Berufsgenossenschaften as the statutory accident insurance institutions are responsible for the provision of all rehabilitation services. They control and co-ordinate medical treatment (medical rehabilitation) as well as reintegration into professional life (professional rehabilitation) and the social environment (social rehabilitation). In order to guarantee a basic standard of living during the period of rehabilitation, injury benefits or temporary allowances are granted by the BGs.
