Despite taking the best possible medical rehabilitation measures after the occurrence of an
incident insured against (occupational accident, commuting accident, occupational disease),
insured persons may not or not fully be able to take up their professional activity again.
Thus, the German Berufsgenossenschaften are legally obliged (Part Seven of the German Social
Code) to ensure, as soon as possible and by all suitable means, the permanent occupational
rehabilitation of the insured persons, taking their fitness, suitability, inclination and
former activity into consideration. The following services are in particular available to
them:
- services helping to keep or find a job
- occupational preparation schemes
- initiation courses, further training, initial training and retraining schemes
- suitable educational support
- services provided to employers
- driving aids
- housekeeping aids.
The occupational rehabilitation services are initiated and co-ordinated by the
Berufshelfer of the BGs.
